Eyelashes can be frustrating. They’re always falling out and are never quite long enough or full enough. I’ve always contemplated false eyelashes or eyelash extensions, but since I wear glasses 98% of the time, it just doesn’t work out. Lashes hitting lenses is a huge annoyance, believe you me. Anyway.
Awhile back DHC sent me a few things to review, such as their BB Cream Foundation and BB Mineral Powder. I also received the DHC Eyelash Tonic, which I was super excited about. I’ve always entertained the idea of using serums and such to try to boost growth and whatever, but always shied away due to possible iris color changes. Luckily, DHC has no warnings of this. It’s also not a scary prescription product like Latisse, so it can’t be too dangerous.
The DHC Eyelash Tonic isn’t a growth serum, but rather a conditioner of sorts. I decided to use it in hopes of strengthening my lashes to help limit breakage and loss.
As per usual, I love DHC packaging. So much gold, such little time.
You’re instructed to use this twice a day–in the morning as a mascara base, and at night as a conditioner. I am THE WORST at remembering to use this, I swear. I usually hit it up in the morning, but at night? Oops. Also some days I just plain forget completely. Therefore, this review can’t really be judged via time, because I was inconsistent as hell.

From DHC:
Conditioning DHC Eyelash Tonic nourishing gel treatment strengthens for lush, fuller-looking eyelashes. Fortifying botanicals coat each lash from root to tip to help prevent breakage for a more robust lash line. Wear under mascara during the day and all by itself at bedtime.
Specially designed applicator helps distribute gel more evenly
Rich in botanicals, including ginseng, aloe and Swertia japonica extract
How To Use
Use as a mascara base in the morning and as a conditioner in the evening. Gently and evenly, brush a small amount of tonic onto lash roots and sweep outward towards tips.
Ingredients:
water/aqua/eau, butylene glycol, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, phenoxyethanol, carbomer, aminomethyl propanol, placental protein, xanthan gum, allantoin, swertia japonica extract, salix alba (willow) bark extract, symphytum officinale leaf extract, nasturtium officinale flower/leaf extract, olea europaea (olive) leaf extract, panax ginseng root extract
Typical mascara-y applicator. Just swipe upward on lashes, much like you’re putting on mascara. Just be really, really careful that you don’t accidentally get this in your eye. Because holy ow. It stings soooooo bad. So don’t do it. Friends don’t let friends get eyehurt.
Also, you might want to wipe off the wand after applying–mascara remnants and dirt will easily muddle up your unused tonic. It’s harmless enough but will look pretty gross. Just some sage advice.
After using haphazardly for roughly three months or so. You can definitely see a difference lengthwise, and though I’m not sure you can visually see any increase in volume in these photos, it feels like my lashes are more lush.
Another nice thing about this product is that it also makes mascara way easier to remove, preventing breakage. Always a plus.
I should probably note I put on mascara in these photos so you can actually see my lashes, not to accentuate them. My naked lashes are blond and virtually invisible. Deal with it.
Pros: Easy to apply, works well over time.
Cons: DON’T GET IT IN YOUR EYE.
Final Verdict: I’m a fan, when I remember to use it. Check it out for yourself at DHC for $14 USD.
