Daiso Horse Fat Foot Scrub

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned the sick obsession I have with Daiso. Daiso’s a Japanese 100 yen store. Here in the land of eagles and Obama, everything is $1.50. Everything. Unless marked differently, but most everything. You can imagine how one can go crazy in there. They have a little of everything, but my favorite section, of course, is the healthy and beauty aisle.

Daiso Haul

I managed to snag a ton of cheap stuff on my last trip, including a random knife because I needed one. And it’s a dang good knife, let me tell you. Anyway, two of the stranger items I snatched up were the Daiso Horse Fat Hand Cream & Foot Scrub Cream. Horse fat? In MY hand cream? Sure, why not. I figured it would be incredibly moisturizing, and such things don’t repulse or scare me. I’m not expecting to get super enthusiastic comments about this (I’m looking at you, people who bitch about snail cream), but whatever. Don’t like it, don’t use it. In this case, I will use it for you and tell you all about it.

The facts:

Main ingredient is Horse fat/oil
Moisturizing/exfoliating

From eBay:

The Horse Oil is famous and traditional moisture formula in Japan. This hand cream helps with skin irritation alleviation and its absorbs on the skin without stickness, protects the skin from roughness, creates skin protection layer and makes the hand soft and moist. Very good for use after housework.

Yeah, I yanked a description off of eBay because the Daiso website doesn’t have these babies on there. Nor could I really find an official ingredient list online, but it’s all on the packaging, so don’t you worry. Yes, ‘horse fat’ is a major ingredient.

Neighhhhh.

Daiso throws English, Japanese and Spanish translations on their American products. I can dig that.

This cream is lightweight and not greasy, despite being composed of horse fat, which sounds like it’d be greasy as hell. It absorbs super quickly and made my hands nice and soft. I’ve never had dry skin–I rarely use lotions at all, so I can’t really tell you how effective this product is. It didn’t make my overly-hydrated skin oily or anything, so I imagine it’s good for all skin types. It also has a pleasant ginger scent.

Such an elegant little tub, befitting of such an elegant product name.

I had an attention-starved kitty who was getting really impatient with my shoot at this point. She’s the boss.

Daiso Horse Fat Foot Scrub

This one is a heavy, gritty scrub, perfect for exfoliating all of your foot problems away. This is awesome for me, because my feet have been super dry since this summer, and I have a dropped metatarsal that has created a perpetual callous on the ball of my foot. It sucks. I went in with high hopes that this dollar store foot scrub would solve everything.

BUT DID IT?

Well, no. Not everything. It did make my feet moisturized and super super soft, which is awesome. This cream is REALLY thick and rich and a little goes a long way. I might have went overboard in my excitement and used half the tub. Maybe. Anyway, it won’t do much for ridiculous callouses, but if you have a sad case of dry feet, I’d definitely recommend this scentless scrub. Embrace the horse fat.

Pros: Both are super moisturizing.
Cons: Horse fat, if that ain’t yo’ thing.

Final Verdict: I’d repurchase the foot scrub. I’ve no use of hand lotions so that one won’t be bought again, but if you’re a dry-hander, feel free to check it out. Both can be found at Daiso stores for $1.50 USD and random places on the internet.

What’s the strangest beauty product you’ve tried?
