Before I delve into this gorgeous lip color, I just want to say that I finally got sucked into the Instagram vortex. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a personal one for awhile, I just never update it or look at it. Facebook’s enough for me, yeah? But anyway, I finally ended up making one for my blog. Now onto more important things, like Palladio High Intensity Herbal Lip Balm. In Blooming Berry. Say that five times fast, I dare you. I picked this up on a whim at my neighborhood beauty shop while looking for a new red lipstick… I swatched a ton of the testers and both the sales associate and I agreed this darker cool red-berry was best for my skin tone.

The swatch is pretty true to color. Now, just to interject a bit, this is the color I was hoping for when I purchased the similar-looking CoverGirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Jam Twist. I did a quick comparison so you can see how different the two are, despite the packaging. CoverGirl’s balm is way less opaque, albeit more moisturizing.
I actually took a side-by-side swatch comparison, but the color was off and there was no daylight left in this world, so tungsten stopped by and ruined everything. I’m too lazy to set up lights and too impatient to wait until tomorrow, so you’re getting the copy and paste treatment. KISSES.
In daylight it’s a vibrant, almost red berry hue, which I adore. I think I found my shade! Finally! And I’ve actually worn it outside my apartment. I’m so proud. Seriously so stoked about this color. And I’ve never actually typed or uttered that word before, so that really says something, I think. Blooming Berry, if you were a man, I’d marry the shit out of you. Actually, if there’s no law against marrying cosmetics…
This lip balm, in Blooming Berry at least, is effectively a stain. Eat, drink, be merry–you’ll have color on your lips for quite some time. The application is super smooth, and the formula is slightly moisturizing. Not the moistest lipstick on the block, but it won’t dry your lips out. In any case, you can always stick some clear moisturizing balm underneath if you’re feeling extra chapped. This also helps if you want to dilute the color a bit.
I don’t normally use a lip liner, but being a dark color, this has a tendency to bleed a bit. Not tremendously, but it might bother you. Or not. It wasn’t too obvious on me, so whatever. Also, if you have dry lips, the dark color will definitely accentuate any dry patches–be sure to exfoliate beforehand! As for that dreaded lipstick scent, worry not–this one’s unscented, minus the faint odor of wax.
The Palladio High Intensity Herbal Lip Balm comes in seven other shades, although I swear I saw more at the shop. I also might be totally insane.
Pros: Long lasting, smooth application, leaves a nice stain, not drying.
Cons: Dark colors might bleed a bit, accentuates dry patches.
Final Verdict: Love. Obviously. I can’t wait to grab this in some other shades, and try other Palladio products. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can find it at Palladio Beauty for $7 USD.
