Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

So I might be addicted to Groupon. It’s rare that I use it for things like dining or entertainment, but cheap cosmetics and skincare? Don’t mind if I do. On my last Groupon scavenging hunt I stumbled across these Bellapierre Shimmer Powder eyeshadows. Being unfamiliar with the brand, I did a little research and found that one of these babies cost $14.95, and this here Groupon was selling six of them for $16. You KNOW I couldn’t say no to that. I was drawn to the colors in the set, but at the same time noticed that dreaded word: shimmer. I’m very touch and go with shimmery things. I don’t mind some sheen, but all-out glitter is a huge no-no in my book. I couldn’t find any swatches online so I just threw caution to the wind and ordered them. And hey, they came with a free brush.

What I love about these mineral eyeshadows is the super minimal ingredient list. They’re made out of 100% pure mica powder, and I imagine they’re quite similar to other mineral shadows such as those from BareMinerals. I can’t give an accurate comparison though, because BareMinerals and I don’t quite get along so I haven’t given their eye makeup a chance. Sue me.

This set came with a neutral, earth-toned palette, which was just what I was looking for.

The facts:

Each arrived tightly sealed.

Except this one. The seal was still intact so I’m not totally sure why there’s powder everywhere. Production issue perhaps. Oh well, won’t stop me.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP029 Refined. Basically a shimmery gunmetal.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP055 Diligence. A warm brown shade with slightly intimidating glitter chunks. I’m already anticipating a tumultuous relationship with this one.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP061 Beige. Probably the safest in the bunch. Doesn’t appear to be too shimmery or glittery.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP070 Cocoa. A shimmery, well, cocoa shade.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP071 Storm. A slate silver that looks like it’ll be a bit too shiny for my tastes.

Bellapierre Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

SP079 Antiqa. Probably my favorite on initial inspection. Looks to be a soft brown with rose-toned flecks of shimmer.

And so. The application of these wasn’t the best. It takes a few attempts before getting an opaque color, and glitter fall-out is sort of horrendous. On the plus side, these are long lasting. After vigorously scrubbing dry and with water, the glitter kind of went away, but the color stays put. Actually, I’m about to go shoot a red carpet premiere and can’t get this shit off my arm. This may prove to be a pro or con. You be the judge.

Aside of lasting a damn long time, they blend easily when applied but after setting are pretty smudge-proof. But that glitter fall-out. LOOK AT MY ARM. Shit gets everywhere. Dealbreaker? Maybe. For the time being I am diggin’ the Beige, Antiqa and Refined shades. I wanted some browns but these just seem… off to me. Cheap-looking maybe, with the large glitter that seems out of place, almost like an afterthought.

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder Colors

Bellapierre does have a pretty massive collection of colors to choose from, I’ll give them that. I definitely see a few I’d like to try out, but unfortunately right now I’m way too cheap. Someday. Someday…

Pros: Long lasting, won’t smudge, large variety of shades.
Cons: Expensive, not for the faint of shimmer. Seriously.

Final Verdict: You can try them out for yourselves for $14.99 a pop at Bellapierre, or hunt around Groupon for the occasional sweet deal.

Has anyone tried any Bellapierre products, or other mineral shadows? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
