Another day, another crazy Daiso product. This time, I present to you Silk Cocoons. They are basically little pods you place over your finger and rub all over your face, claiming to gently exfoliate and remove dirt from your pores. That sounds cool and all, but then you stop and realize what exactly these things are. I repeat, Silk Cocoons. Literal cocoons made and nested in by silkworms.
These are silkworms.
This is how silk cocoons are made.
I should probably say I’m terrified of most bugs, especially things that creep and crawl. Silkworms fall into that category. So you can imagine how I felt when I realized what was going on here. When I bought these I didn’t really think much of it, just another cheap, weirdo Daiso thing to play with. At $1.50 USD, I’m not going to be too critical pre-purchase. But when I got home and figured it out… oof. Yeah, I know it’s not a worm wrapped around my finger but at one point it had cradled one, so it’s like touching a worm once removed. You understand, I’m sure.
Daiso, as per usual, is very multi-lingual.
Are you ready for some tampons cosmétiques?
Mostly Japanese on the back, but they supply an English translation.
Easy enough to use: submerge a cocoon in hot water for a few minutes and massage the desired areas of skin. The ol’ soak and rub, as I like to call it.
These can be used 3-5 times, which is nice. But ‘use only for intended purpose’? What other uses could one come up with for these? I’m not sure I want to know.
The facts:
Exfoliating
100% silk
4 pieces
Multi-use
Like a little finger-hat.
No secret hidden silkworm, no worries.
Soak soak soak.
After soaking it looks roughly the same, albeit a little less fuzzy and a little more plump.
Afterwards. Don’t be fooled, I was in a different room with different lighting so it’s not really as yellow. It actually looks pretty much the same, just a little more worn out. It didn’t have a huge effect for me, but I’m hardcore with pore-care, so there really wasn’t much work to be done. I imagine that if you have clogged pores, this would be awesome.
Pros: Super cheap at $1.50 USD, can be used multiple times, gentle.
Cons: Freaking worms made them.
Final Verdict: Would I get them again? Maybe, but only because they are so affordable. If you’re curious, you can find them in the beauty aisle at Daiso.
Have you tried any silk cocoons? Would you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
